Smoking Cessation (Quit Smoking)

If you currently smoke and have COPD, the most important thing to do is quit smoking. This is the only way to prevent your condition from worsening – it can eventually decrease your ability to breathe.

Quitting smoking is not easy. And if you’ve tried to quit previously and been unsuccessful, it can make this task much more daunting.

To quit smoking, talk to your doctor about programs and products that you can use to find the solution you need. Some things that can help include:

  • Nicotine replacement products
  • Medications
  • Stress management
  • Learning how to handle relapses
  • Avoiding secondhand smoke
